Serving as virtual CMO for online HR tech/SaaS start-up Talegent, I named the company, developed the brand guidelines and position, helped design the product and created all marketing materials. We got around lack of budget for advertising with a content strategy — creating white papers, webinars, etc. and promoting them through free social media (mainly Twitter and LinkedIn). I differentiated Talegent from large entrenched competitors by claiming we were specifically created and optimized for online recruiting. It worked.
